DJ Sparky aka Pat Morris
His sets are defined as high energy electro top 40 with a blend of club anthems and old school!!!
From his humble beginnings of playing local venues in Kanata, ON, Canada to the super clubs of Ottawa/Hull and Mexico, and everything in between, Pat has always had the same philosophy and that is … “Keep the Crowd Moving from Start to Past Closing” at every venue, no matter the size of the venue or music style.
He has had long term residences to special guest gigs and has maintained a great knowledge of what’s “Hot” in the club scene throughout the years. He has recently relocated to Toronto, ON, Canada and has come out of a 10 year hiatus. Pat has had the opportunity to play venues across Canada and most recently in southern and eastern Ontario.
In working alongside other great DJ’s and with having the experience of working in the Ottawa record pool, his mixing style, set lists, and skills enable him to be able to beat-mix and include a wide-range of music which is not genre specific and also enables him to easily read the audience and deliver what the “crowd wants”.
Pat was inspired by international and local DJ’s, with their vast experience, and variety of music choices, mixing styles and energy … Pat learned …. All Music Makes the Dance Floor MOVE!
In keeping up with new technologies and having access to different record pools, worldwide – Pat has never lost touch with what’s “Hot and Now” and continues to promote new music and beats in all his sets.

what`s your credo?
There are not many DJ`s of this type. DJ`s who believed in Techno from the first minute, DJ`s who experienced Techno from the very beginning, DJ`s who made techno their own thing. DJ`s who found their own style, even more, who developped it over the years, Dj`s who`s name is the expression for a specific sound. Alex Bau is one of them. But at the same time, there are some slight differences with this guy. Why focussing on just one style of music? Why only minimal sounds? Why only Techno? Why? If cou can have both…
Is it related to the fact that there has been a time before Techno for Alex Bau? Thousands of records in his collection, different styles, different music, for sure something that leaves its marks, no doubt about it. Still he is doing Depeche Mode-Nights from time to time, just for fun, and his activities on Techno doesn`t really suffer from that, not at all! With his 5 or even more hours sets at his first resident club in his southeastbavarian homearea, the „Libella“, where for example also DJ Hell started his career back in the 80ies, he achieved the reputation as somebody who is totally aware of what he is doing, totally dedicated to it and also totally loving it. He had his own radioshow for over 2 years on a local radiostation, still so far the only technoshow in this area, but after countless gigs at the local clubs time was right to proof that he is also able to play at other places all around. Especially the productions together with his friend Sven Dedek, mainly released under their moniker „Basic Implant“ or „Electric Envoy“ on labels like the at this time starting „Fine Audio Recordings“ from Chris Liebing have hit the technofloors in a very impressive way, so that he was able to collect also international experiences behind the decks while Sven was playing live. Releases like the „Phase Edit EP“, a highly acclaimed and well sold rework of some Nitzer Ebb EBM Classics, or their work for Dave Angel`s “Rotation”, Justin Berkovi`s “Predicaments” or Pascal FEOS` “PV-Records” enabled the guys to reach a much bigger audience. Finally, after numerous releases for different labels beside his own label “Toneman”, Alex released his debut-album “Connected” in late 2004, which immediately draw the attention of many high class DJ`s like Chris Liebing, Pascal FEOS or Good Groove to name just a few. The fact that these artists, all standing for a different kind of style, grabbed the tracks from “Connected” constantly shows that the name of the album couldn`t have been chosen in a better way.
With starting his own label „Toneman“ back in 2000 Alex Bau also started to his soloproductions for labels like Chris Liebing`s “CLR” or the Montreal based label “Default Recordings”. Montreal can be understood as a kind of scale of Alex` DJ-activities too! Within 3 years he has been booked to Montreal four times, his set from the legendary night at “Aria” from january 2006 was even released as a mix-cd “live at Aria / Montreal” so that Alex came back months later to perform on the releaseparty, once again a night to remember for the Montreal technomovement. At this time Alex was already booked as the headliner, and its reported by numerous mails and guestbook-entries that it was not a mistake to do so. Maybe also as a small, unconscious “thank you”, but mainly due to a very inspirational night he spent in Halifax, where he flew over to Canada for just one night, he declared an EP as the “C.A.N.A.D.A. EP”, which was released on CLR in late 2007 and received overwhelming feedback from all over the globe. People desrcibed the tracks “Summer in Moncton” and “Halifax Funk” as masterpieces of contemporary technomusic which seperates positively from the rest, mainly dominated by minimal clicks and cuts.
But it`s not only Montreal, where Alex is being booked again and again, there are also other places, which obviously is a sign that he seems to be a guy who understands what to do when standing in front of people and trying to bring the party to the max. Clubs like Frankfurt`s “U60311″, where, among other dates, he was part of the closing night of Chris Liebing`s legendary partyseries “Es ist Freitagaaabend”, Munich`s “Electric Delicate”, Würzburg`s “Airport”, or the legendary “Tresor” in Berlin are not only the trademarks of german technoclubculture, they can also be found on Alex Bau`s giglist. Japan, Braszil, USA, Canada, Poland, Croatia, Serbia, Holland or the closer Austria and Switzerland are some of the tourstops on Alex` calender, and no matter where, all over the places people can hear and feel how interesting, versatile and powerful techno can be if you understand to combine minimal and straight techno as a constant up and down. Always everything under control while the party is going wild, that`s what Alex is always going for. That`s also something what the crowd seemed to have experienced, so that Alex was voted among the 20 best national DJ`s on the poll from Germany`s leading Dancemagazine, Raveline, in 2006.

After a short intermezzo as an official artist on the highly acclaimed label „Zenit“, that has been the platform for acts like Marco Carola, Adam Beyer, The Advent, Gaetano Parisio and many more, he now puts the focus back again on an own platform after releasing his album „Credo“ as a sublabel from Zenit, which is now “continued” as his personal artist label with already highly acclaimed releases like “My bleepy helloween” or “Bullet in your heart”, minimal tunes go together with peaktime slammers in a way that appears obvious and logic. This fact and the music on “Credo” attracts a lot of leading colleagues of Alex like Chris Liebing, Dubfire, Adam Beyer, Stephan Bodzin or also Charles Siegling aka Technasia, who invited Alex to join the worldfamous Sino-Label by end of 2008. The feedback on Alex` music is growing constantly, he turned out to be one the few real technoproducers since 2008 and his decision to focus on only a few, but very powerful and strong releases on labels like CLR, Sino or Credo speaks for itself. After releasing numerous succesful releases and remixes in 2009, e.g. “Red Chromosome” on CLR or the “Dark Summer Nights” on Credo, which has to be repressed again and again and was even featured on the German Club Charts (DDC), Alex was really touched by the fact that one of his musical idols, Martin L. Gore, has picked a remix from him (Marko`s “Everything turns black” Remix by Alex) for his pre-show-dj-set of the worldwide Depeche Mode “Tour of the Universe”. 2010 will not only see Alex being a part of handful of high-class artists to create the “10 years CLR compilation”, it will also be the year of Alex` next album “Being Wayne Sidorsky”, an outstanding album and a compilation of tracks which are totally dedicated to the bas(s)ic energy of Techno, something Alex always stood for and will always stay stand for. Techno can do a lot, if you let it do so. That`s the credo. His credo.
As djTR loves the techno, Alex Bau is this weeks guest on Music Vibes, Tune in for a wild set!

There really is very little in the world of music and entertainment that Erick Morillo hasn’t turned his hand to. He’s a platinum-selling artist, he’s topped the charts worldwide as the producer behind Reel 2 Real’s hit “I Like To Move It” (used in both Madagascar movies, reaching millions of viewers worldwide and covered by Will I Am in Madagascar 2) and he’s been responsible for a bewildering array of dance-floor tracks including ‘Reach’, ‘Believe’, ‘Do What You Want’ and ‘I Feel Love’ – under pseudonyms including Ministers De La Funk, The Dronez (with Harry ‘Choo Choo’ Romero and Jose Nunez) and Li’l Mo Ying Yang. He’s remixed everyone from Whitney Houston to Basement Jaxx and continues to run the legendary Subliminal Records house music empire. On his debut album he collaborated with Puff Daddy and Boy George alike. And on his second solo artist album he’s setting his sights even higher: “We’ve already put the message out to Prince and 50 Cent,” says Morillo from his palatial home in Miami, where he has lived for the past four years. “The time is right. Dance music has been received really well, not only by people in clubs but also in the American mainstream. The success of Lady Gaga and Black Eyed Peas means that dance music is being played by MTV. The pendulum has swung back.” For over a decade now, Erick has remained one of the most in-demand and instantly recognisable DJs in the world. From the instant success of his weekly ‘Sessions’ parties in New York, to hosting events like the annual road-blocking Subliminal Sessions parties in Miami at Winter Music Conference, to his coveted residency at Ministry of Sound (he’s still one of the only American DJs to ever hold one) and of course his now legendary Subliminal Sessions parties at Pacha, Ibiza, he’ll now be celebrating his 13th historic season at the club in 2010. His non-stop DJing schedule has seen him straddling the globe playing up to a whopping 30 gigs a month, particularly in the summer months where he’ll play from Rome and Rimini to London and Liverpool – but never far from his weekly Wednesday show at Pacha, Ibiza.
He’s also become a familiar television personality through his appearances on MTV and MTV Ibiza two years in a row whilst starring in a seven part series for UK TV station, Channel 4, which followed him around the world to the biggest parties and was aired to millions of viewers. Raised in Colombia, then New Jersey, Erick was weaned on a musical diet of Latin rhythms, reggae and hip-hop. He started DJing at the age of 11 and after securing himself DJ sets at several local gigs decided to take a studio engineering course at the local Centre of Media Arts. He was soon inducted into the house fraternity through his friend Marc Anthony (the Salsa King), whilst he was working with the now legendary Louie Vega and Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez on “Ride On The Rhythm”. “Louie’s watched out for me since the beginning,” he says. Indeed, last summer the duo DJd together at Pacha Ibiza for the first time in a decade. One minor detail: in the booth was a certain supermodel called Naomi Campbell and beside her was one of Erick’s musical heroes, the legendary Quincy Jones. “Can you believe it? Quincy Jones came to my party,” grins Erick, still in shock a year later. When we saw him there, Louie and I decided to play a bunch of his classics, like Michael Jackson’s Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough’. He told me he loved my bass lines,” smiles Erick. “One of the proudest days in my life.” In 1997, after spending almost a year of meticulously planning everything from logos to packaging, Morillo took it that one step further and launched Subliminal Records with his production partners Harry Romero and Jose Nunez. Guided by Morillo’s ear and studio presence, the brand has gone on to become synonymous with a funky, soulful house sound.

In 2004 Erick released his first artist album worldwide, entitled “My World” it featured heavyweight collaborations from the likes of Puff Daddy, DJ Rap, Terra Deva and even a reunion with the Mad Stuntman. The first single taken from the album was “Break Down The Doors” featuring the Audio Bullys and with its success came Erick’s debut music video, featuring Erick, Audio Bullys and a cameo by his supermodel friend Naomi Campbell. He’ll be returning the favour by DJing at her birthday party in the South Of France this year. Add to this a residency at Pacha NYC (where Erick is also one of the club’s share-holders), a February tour of Australia and South America (he’ll be at Carnival in Brazil alongside fellow house heads Luciano and Steve Angello this year), he even found himself a favorite of a certain pair of princes when performing at the Concert for Diana after-party at London’s Wembley Arena. And this is only what he’s done so far. Next up is his long-awaited second album. “My last record came out in 2004,” he reasons. “I’ve already made a couple of tracks with people like Richard Grey, Eddie Thoneick and Harry Romero,” he reveals, “but I didn’t think I had that fire before – and now I have that fire again. The idea is to have a single before the summer at the very least and an album later in the year.” At WMC this year, Erick will be performing at Ultra Fest where he has performed over the past five years. “It’s turned into a powerhouse and attracts more than 30,000 people a year,” says Erick, ever the entrepreneur. “Ill also be celebrating my birthday at LIV on the 27th as well as hosting a pool party at The Fontainebleau which I have to say has a bigger and better pool and an even better crowd!” After that, Erick will be focusing on Ibiza again – making an appearance at the Ibiza Music Summit first of all.
Erick and David Guetta will appear on a panel titled Big Dog DJs: F*** You We’re Famous, where they will discuss their global reach and appeal. IMS founder Pete Tong will moderate. “I’ve been asked in the past and agreed to do it with David as it felt like a good time to give back,” says Erick. “I realized that I could impart my knowledge of 18-20 years in the industry. Plus it will be a chance to focus on the new aspects of business in music. Indeed, Subliminal – once the home of a burgeoning vinyl business empire – is now entirely digital. “The business of selling music has changed,” he says.
Erick says that Subliminal is now back with a bang, with a release schedule of two releases a month. I have a new single with Shawnee Taylor coming out called ‘Live Your Life’ as well as records from Richard Grey, Able The Kid (he’s covered In My Eyes) and look out for a remix of DJ Dero’s ‘Boca Riba’. There’s one more change in the UK too – Erick will be dipping his toes and beats into matter within the O2 complex on April 17th with special guest Sebastian Ingrosso. “I’ve had a great run at Ministry Of Sound,” he explains of the move, which he insists will not be permanent. “I’ve had a couple of residencies but I wanted to try something new and I really feel like they’re offering something different. I’m not leaving Ministry Of Sound forever!” Then it will be Ibiza season again. “We’re going for a Voodoo theme in 2010,” he reveals. “Subliminal Sessions – Voodoo Nights. I’m definitely going to be the witch doctor. But for me it’s about having fun and being cheeky and the theme touches on both those aspects. “I’m going to be putting people under a spell!” he laughs.
djTR is pleased to annouce that his show Music Vibes will be playing host to the Subliminal Sessions mixed by Erick Morillo and Friends monthly! Stay tuned for dates! This is hot off the press!
